Madhuri Dixit

Madhuri is a famous Indian actress who achieved notoriety for her roles in Hum Aapke hain Koun as well as Beta Saajan. In the late 80s, she made her debut in acting and became popular with the role of Tezaab where she starred alongside the veteran actor Anil Kapooor. Her next film was the film Dil with whom she shared the screen with Aamir Khan. Born into an Mumbai middle class family. She started dancing at an early age. At the age of 16 she started acting, but suffered through a number of years as the majority of her films at first were unsuccessful. Her fame grew and she became one of India's leading film actors. Following her marriage she had a career break prior to returning to the entertainment industry. More recently she played an integral role in the movie Gulaab Gang which was about the challenges faced by women throughout India. Dixit was nominated 15 times in the Filmfare Awards. She won eight of them. Padma Shri is the fourth highest civilian honor in India. Her social work is also very well-known.
